Manganese is essential to virtually every steel — it deoxidizes, desulfurizes, and increases hardenability. It is also the primary alloying element in Hadfield manganese steel (12–14% Mn), the definitive impact-and-abrasion-resistant steel used in armor plate, rock-crusher jaws, railway crossings, and mine-and-quarry equipment.
Manganese ore production is concentrated in South Africa (~35%), Gabon, Australia, and China. Electrolytic manganese metal (EMM) production is dominated by China. We source EMM and ferro-manganese from South African, Australian, and Norwegian smelters, with documentation for DFARS specialty-metals compliance where applicable.
