Silicon is the second-largest steelmaking deoxidizer after manganese. Ferro-silicon (FeSi 75) additions to every carbon-steel heat. Silicon metal (Si-metal 99%) is the primary alloying element in aluminum casting alloys (383, 356, 380) and the feedstock for polysilicon production for solar and semiconductor.
Global Si-metal production is concentrated in China (~70%). We source metallurgical-grade Si-metal from Norwegian (Elkem), Icelandic, and Brazilian smelters to avoid Chinese exposure. Ferro-silicon supply is more geographically diverse (Norway, Russia, U.S., India, South Africa).
